Welcome to Tyrcanol

TYRCANOL

A family-run stud of Welsh Mountain ponies Section A and Welsh ponies Sections B and C, bred from the best old bloodlines. Our Priority is to breed ponies with correct and balanced conformation, free movement and Welsh presence.

Tyrcanol ponies are renowned for their exceptional movement and have won at all the major shows in Britain in hand and under saddle. We have exported ponies to many European countries where they have achieved great success for their new owners.

At Tyrcanol we have a breeding herd of Section A mares living out all the year on the Welsh hills. Our section Bs are of an old-fashioned stamp, with good bone and substance and true Welsh character. Many of our breeding mares are daughters or granddaughters of Tyrcanol Master Stephen, a son of the legendary Solway Master Bronze.

The stud has a few section C mares bred from Lyn Cwm Coed/Parc Lady bloodlines. Their progeny all have exceptional movement and have been shown with great success under saddle.

We have always bred golden palomino Section As and Bs at Tyrcanol, including Tyrcanol Alice, reserve champion palomino at the Royal Welsh show in 1998.

Each year we have for sale a selection of first class section A and B foals and youngstock, usually including palomino and black foals, by our senior stallions.

We also have for sale some superb ponies broken to saddle and ready to be ridden, and loved, by children.

Due to the world economic climate, since 2010 we have left many of our broodmares barren for a few years. In 2022 we bred a small number of foals, which would be ideal for anyone looking for a future top-class child’s pony.  Looking to the future, we have begun to implement a major change in the direction of the stud. In consequence we will have for sale some outstanding Section A and Section B stallions, which should provide a superb opportunity to add sought after bloodlines to your stud.

One of the greatest pleasures of breeding Welsh ponies is to see them being enjoyed by children for riding, jumping, cross-country, dressage – and as friends. For this reason, we always have available for sale a selection of first-class mares and geldings broken to ride, from 11 hands to 13.2 hands (110-135 cms), including some which have won in the major British shows.

Sally and Simon are members of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society panel of Judges and have judged extensively throughout Britain, and in Holland, Australia and the United States.

New in 2022

When the site was established, I planned to offer a short regular blog, but haven’t done so, as I thought no one would be interested. On reflection, that’s no reason not to write on so I will (soon) start posting (probably fortnightly) blogs – some of them news, some of them topics for discussion. If is there anyone out there reading them, do let me know!
